Abstract
Introduction: Health promotion has evolved from a disease-centered approach to an integral vision that recognizes health as a human right and a social process. Since the Lalonde Report and the Ottawa Charter, it has been consolidated as a global strategy emphasizing intersectorality, equity, and community action as fundamental pillars. Subsequent international conferences broadened its scope toward the creation of healthy environments, health literacy, and environmental sustainability. Today, major challenges include digital inequality, misinformation, and insufficient health funding in Latin America. Strengthening health promotion requires coherent public policies, continuous education, ethical communication, and leadership grounded in scientific evidence. Health literacy and community participation are essential pillars for building equitable, resilient societies committed to collective well-being and sustainable development.
